Here’s a recap of the AMA on 20th April With Frontier
Palash Jain(Frontier CMO): hey @manohara_unmarshal glad to have you here today! How’s it going?
Manohara: It’s been great so far. We are making progress on helping more and more projects with unmarshal’s data.”
Palash Jain(Frontier CMO): Sounds amazing! before we get started with the AMA session. Can you give the Frontier community a quick intro about yourself and Unmarshal?
Manohara: Sure. I am a software engineer with 8+ years of experience, I always had thoughts about starting a project on my own. I have worked with some of the major ride-hailing firms in southeast Asia. My last job was with Grab in Singapore. I started understanding blockchain, crypto, etc around 2018 and started helping people with tech consulting in the crypto space. While working in one such consulting gig, we got the idea of unmarshalUnmarshal is a DeFi data network. We index, decode and serve data from multiple blockchains in multiple formats. we identify DeFi objects such as tokens, Protocol positions, Price stores, Wallets, etc, and build customized APIs on top of it and serve data in multiple formats like APIs, push notifications, WebSockets, etc.
Palash Jain(Frontier CMO): Thank you for the brief intro. I am personally a big fan of infrastructure-based projects — Unmarshal being one of them 😊. The problem you guys are solving by making blockchain data available in any format the end-user wants without having to spend a lot of dev bandwidth has been helping a lot of projects including Frontier!
Manohara: That’s our actual goal. A lot of people come with brilliant ideas. They should just focus on building just what they came here to build and shouldn’t spend a lot of time and doing things like indexing etc. the repetitive things have to be done at one place where it's beneficial for everyone building applications.”
Palash Jain(Frontier CMO): For those who are wondering how is Frontier using Unmarshal APIs to power the DeFi interface here are some key points:
Unmarshal’s Infrastructure Support to Frontier:
1. Rich and Decoded Wallet balances
2. Protocol Positions
3. Collateralized Debt Positions
4. Push Notifications
We are also expanding to multiple other avenues as well!
Palash Jain(Frontier CMO): The last question from me, then we move to community round.
@manohara_unmarshal Unmarshal is a Multi-chain DeFi data network. can you give us a list of chain you support and share some details on your client base as partners and dApp using Unmarshal APIs
Manohara: We have indexed Binance smart chain, Ethereum, Polkadot, StaFi, and Edgeware. we will be indexing Algorand, Elrond, and Polygon in the near future. on the clients' side, we have been announcing partnerships for the last few days. we have been helping Frontier, Zeroswap, Pandora, PolkaCover, etc. many more to be announced.
Questions from the Community
- Question from Alice
There is an opinion on projects with utility tokens, often called that these tokens only exist to raise money! What do you think? Does $MARSH have real values that dismiss this opinion?
Manohara: “Unmarshal is a decentralized network. We understand as data grow, it will be impossible for just one team to cope up with the requirements and indexing. we will decentralize our network to include data indexers, data decoders, and validators. Data users pay per query in $MARSH and then Fee will be shared across service providers. MARSH will play an important role.”
- Question from Khan
From a startup project to a mainstream project, being a pioneer in the industry, does the team anticipate how many new startups will show up and compete?
Manohara: “I think data processing will become a huge niche in the web3 industry and will be a critical one. As adoption for blockchain grows, data requirements will also grow. There are only a few players in this niche, leading by Graph. so, we expect more projects. I think there is space for a few more.”
- Question from Sin Tae-Young
A lot of people just want to know the strengths of a project for investment. What is the competitive advantage your platform has that you feel most confident about?
Manohara: “Unmarshal has automated indexing capability for new protocols. and also we serve customized data in whatever format clients ask us to. matter of fact we give CSV data to one of our clients.”
- Question from Reinhard Van Astrea
What do you think is the future of digital collectibles and NFTs and how then does Unmarshal plan to be at the forefront of this innovation?
Manohara: “There is huge potential for NFTs and we are seeing the growth in their adoption. We want to be part of this innovation. That’s why we announce NFT APIs. also partnering with NFT projects to help them with data needs.”
- Question from Reinhard Van Astrea
How are functions such as scalability, workflow, databases, and user privacy protection deployed and handled? Where do you feel you need to improve in the future?
Manohara: “We have experience with handling huge data. At Grab, we used to make 10s of millions of bookings resulting in billions of data points flowing through the services.
We have been experimenting with a combination of databases both SQL and NoSQL. We currently use Aurora, Postgres, and Rocksdb.”
- Question from Novato Tech
What are the major milestones Unmarshal achieved so far & what’s in the future pipeline?
Manohara: “We have released our API services for token balances, transactions, NFTs and PancakeSwap, etc. We have a notification service, price store, and token store to follow. I think the next few months will be really exciting for us”
- Question from Reinhard Van Astrea
Hi Manohar :)Now in the bull market all projects, even average quality projects are growing…how do you convince me that the bear market project will not fall down? Why are you unique to survive the bear market?
Manohara: I can’t comment on pricing and how tokens will do in certain scenarios. But All I can say is that unmarshal is an infrastructure project and data needs are not affected by market conditions.
- Question from Reinhard Van Astrea
Your project has great features. There must be an experienced team behind. Can you tell some about your team and their experiences in the market?
Manohara: Unmarshal is a public team. all our profiles are public. We have close to 30 years of combined tech experiences. one fun fact is that all of the unmarshal team either went to the same university or worked for the same employer. so everyone knows everyone before we started
- Question from Reinhard Maria Mark
I’m a developer, and I’m interested in contributing to Unmarshal alongside earning, Do you have any Bug Bounty to check for vulnerabilities?
Manohara: we have few technically skilled roles in our decentralized network. you can help unmarshal by being a Data indexer or data decoder. you will be earning the query fee for the queries you serve.
